That Offended Me!

Been offended lately? The word of God says that Love does not easily take offence (1 Corinthians 13) Many times our offence is not what someone has said or done, it simply reveals that there may be something in us that needs a little tweaking.  And although you may not agree  it may also mean that what that person has said is the truth and our offence comes because we’re not quite ready to hear or accept it OUCH!  Don’t get me wrong,  I’m not talking about people who are flat out cruel and  mean, I am referring to those who truly care about us and it just may be that the Lord gave them the boldness to share it with or even “teach” you.  Many times as pastors this happens to us.  The Lord gives either myself or my husband a message and there are times that people take offence.  They confuse the issue that in most cases it is not in fact us but it is the Lord trying to get their attention to teach and  help them to grow and mature as a follower of Jesus, but because of their offence they are unable to receive it.  The scripture reference for this is: “The Lord corrects those He loves” Proverbs 3:12.  None of us like correction, in fact his word says “No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way.” Hebrews 12:11. But if we truly want to follow Jesus we must learn to humble ourselves and receive it “For the Lord corrects those he loves..even as a father (mother) in whom he/she delights” Proverbs 3:12  So once you cool your boots (sometimes offence stirs up anger), ask the Lord if there is some truth to what was said, and allow him to work in you.
